ASP - Automated Sample Processor

The RTS ASP (Automated Sample Processor) was initially developed for the UK Biobank, which is now collecting an additional two samples, saliva and stabilized blood for RNA isolation, from the remaining participants.

The ASP is an integrated solution derived from the RTS ABF500 (Automated Blood Fractionation System) and enables up to 400 samples to be processed per day.  RTS has taken the continuous mode operation of the ABF and combined it with an adaptable deck enabling both sample types to be processed within the same base instrument, with only a quick exchange of the deck layout required to switch from processing saliva tubes to RNA stabilised blood tubes.

As the saliva and RNA blood processing systems operate in continuous mode, the systems can be replenished throughout a run without the system needing to be halted at any point, allowing new samples to be placed on the system for processing and processed samples to be removed for storage. Once the initial sample run has been loaded onto the system, the user will only ever have to remove processed samples and load a new batch of fresh samples without needing to interrupt the current sample processing. Technology incorporated into the system allows it to monitor parts of the system that are in use to protect against collision damage during sample replenishment and removal. The benefit of continuous mode operation is that down time due to batched running is eliminated and less input is required by technicians.
